Acer Palmatum 'Cleveland' is a medium-sized tree with a compact and regular, egg-shaped crown which grows wider when maturing, but still remains dense. The height reaches up to 15 m. The leaves are shiny dark green and rather large with a yellow-orange autumn colour. The tree flowers before the leaves unfurl with quite large upright and spreading yellow-green flowers. In full bloom the tree is a real harbinger of spring. 'Cleveland' is very suitable as a town tree, because it needs little pruning and is tolerant to heat.

Plant Care & Advice
In an ideal situation, an Acer should have a slightly acidic, sandy, well drained soil that does not dry out in summer or become waterlogged in winter. Acers have shallow fibrous root systems which benefit from an annual mulch of organic matter. This also helps avoid wilt. If any pruning is undertaken it should only be done to improve their overall shape and to encourage healthy growth.
