Acer Platanoides 'Crimson Sentry' is a beautiful feature tree. It has dark crimson foliage which covers the upright branches. This columnar tree is ideal for small gardens as it will grow to just 6 x 2 metres in 20 years. This ornamental tree is not only popular for its narrow form, but also the beautiful foliage which turns from dark-red to purple in the summer and then to red again in the autumn.

In an ideal situation, an Acer should have a slightly acidic, sandy, well drained soil that does not dry out in summer or become waterlogged in winter. Acers have shallow fibrous root systems which benefit from an annual mulch of organic matter. This also helps avoid wilt. If any pruning is undertaken it should only be done to improve their overall shape and to encourage healthy growth.
