Chaenomeles × superba ‘Texas Scarlet’ is a vigorous, deciduous flowering quince renowned for its exceptionally bright scarlet-red spring flowers. In early to mid-spring, masses of open, bowl-shaped blooms appear along the bare branches, delivering a strong, unmistakable burst of colour at the very start of the season. The flowers are clear, intense red with contrasting golden stamens, creating a crisp, eye-catching display that stands out even from a distance. As with most Chaenomeles × superba varieties, mature stems carry short, sharp thorns, making it suitable for informal or defensive hedging as well as ornamental planting. Once flowering has finished, glossy green leaves emerge to form a dense, spreading shrub that provides structure through summer and may develop small decorative fruits in autumn.
