Cotinus coggygria SMOKEY JOE (PBR) is a compact-growing smoke bush chosen for its manageable size and distinctive seasonal character. Throughout the growing season it carries rounded green foliage that creates a full, bushy outline, while in early to mid-summer loose sprays of tiny flowers expand into soft, cloud-like plumes that appear suspended above the plant. As autumn approaches, the leaves gradually change to shades of amber, orange, and red before dropping. Fully hardy in UK gardens, it grows reliably in sunny positions with free-draining soil and works well as a structural shrub in borders or smaller planting schemes where a controlled habit is preferred.
