Invite wildlife into your garden with the vigorous Leycesteria formosa 'Purple Rain', a spectacular Himalayan Honeysuckle known for its dramatic pendulous blooms. This fast-growing deciduous shrub features elegant, sea-green hollow stems that resemble bamboo, providing a structural, tropical feel to UK borders. From midsummer through to autumn, it produces hanging chains of white flowers enveloped in deep, beetroot-purple bracts. These are followed by succulent, chocolate-scented berries that turn a glossy black and are highly attractive to pheasants and songbirds. Reaching a mature height of approximately 2m, 'Purple Rain' is an exceptionally hardy, low-maintenance choice that thrives in both sun and partial shade, offering a long season of architectural interest.
