Pennisetum viridescens is a clump-forming perennial grass valued for its dark foliage and late-season interest. It produces arching leaves through the growing season, followed by soft, bottlebrush-style flower plumes in late summer and autumn. The plant forms a compact, upright clump and works well in mixed borders or containers. In the UK it is considered half-hardy and benefits from a sheltered position and winter protection, particularly in colder regions. New growth emerges in spring after old foliage is removed.
