Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Angel Gold’ (PBR) is a small, deciduous ninebark chosen for its clear, light-catching foliage and naturally compact shape. As growth starts in spring, the leaves open a fresh, bright yellow, bringing immediate lift to borders and planting schemes. Throughout summer, the foliage remains pale and luminous rather than fading to green, maintaining contrast alongside darker shrubs and perennials. In late spring to early summer, shallow clusters of small white flowers appear above the leaves, adding a subtle seasonal highlight and attracting pollinators. With a dense, rounded habit and a mature size of around 150–200cm in height and spread, ‘Angel Gold’ is particularly well suited to smaller gardens, front-of-border planting, and containers. Fully hardy in UK conditions, tolerant of most well-drained soils including clay, and requiring very little ongoing care, it is a reliable choice for long-lasting foliage colour with minimal effort.
