Physocarpus opulifolius PANTHER (PBR) is a deciduous shrub selected for its exceptionally dark foliage and crisp, upright structure. The leaves emerge deep purple in spring and quickly deepen to near-black, giving the plant a strong, graphic presence that holds throughout the growing season. Compared with standard ninebark varieties, it grows in a more compact, vertical manner, maintaining a clean outline rather than a wide, spreading shape. Small, pale flower clusters may appear in early summer, offering subtle contrast, but the foliage remains the dominant feature. Bold without being bulky, PANTHER is well suited to contemporary borders and planting schemes where intense leaf colour and controlled form are used to create definition and depth.
