Azalea japonica 'Palestrina' is a compact evergreen azalea valued for its fresh white flowers and neat, controlled form. In mid to late spring, the plant becomes covered in crisp white blooms, each carrying a faint green tone at the centre that adds gentle detail without distracting from the overall brightness. The flowers sit close to the foliage, creating an even, well-balanced display. Shiny dark green leaves remain attractive throughout the year, giving the shrub lasting structure beyond the flowering period. Naturally slow growing and easy to manage, 'Palestrina' is an excellent choice for containers, front-of-border planting, or ericaceous beds where clarity of colour and evergreen presence are important.

How to care for Azalea japonica 'Palestrina'

Light:
Light shade to partial sun; morning sun is ideal. Protect from strong afternoon sun, especially in exposed gardens.

Soil:
Requires acidic, humus-rich, free-draining soil. Lime-free compost is essential; avoid chalky or compacted ground.

Water:
Keep soil evenly moist, particularly during establishment and dry periods. Shallow roots must not be allowed to dry out.

Pruning:
Very little pruning needed. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain shape and remove spent blooms.

Hardiness:
Hardy in most UK gardens; shelter from cold, drying winds improves foliage quality.
