Acer shirasawanum ‘Aureum’ is a highly ornamental Japanese maple grown for its rounded, softly lobed leaves and luminous foliage colour. In spring, the leaves emerge bright golden yellow, often with warm orange or pinkish tones, creating a glowing effect in the garden. Through summer, the foliage remains light yellow-green, particularly striking in dappled shade, before turning rich shades of orange and red in autumn. The naturally graceful form and distinctive leaf shape give it a softer, more flowing appearance than many palmatum types. Best grown in a sheltered position with well-drained soil, ‘Aureum’ is valued for its refined character, gentle colour shifts, and strong seasonal presence.
