Catalpa × erubescens ‘Purpurea’ is a bold, deciduous ornamental tree prized for its dramatic foliage colour and architectural presence. In spring, the large, heart-shaped leaves emerge a deep purple to bronze-black shade, gradually maturing to dark green with purplish tones as the season progresses. The broad leaves create a lush, tropical effect, while mature trees may produce upright panicles of creamy white flowers in early summer, lightly marked with yellow and purple within the throat. With its rounded canopy and striking leaf colour, ‘Purpurea’ makes an impressive specimen tree for lawns and spacious borders.
