Corylus avellana ‘Red Majestic’ (PBR) is a distinctive deciduous shrub combining dramatic corkscrew branching with rich purple foliage. Twisting, contorted stems create strong architectural interest throughout the year, becoming especially noticeable in winter once the leaves have fallen. In spring, deep burgundy-purple leaves emerge alongside decorative pinkish catkins, providing early seasonal colour before maturing into a dense, rounded plant through summer. As autumn approaches, the foliage deepens before leaf fall reveals the sculptural framework beneath. Fully hardy in UK conditions, it grows well in well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade, making it an excellent specimen plant for adding structure and colour to borders and feature planting areas.
