Hedera hibernica is a robust evergreen ivy widely used for covering walls, fences, and shaded ground. It produces large, leathery green leaves that remain on the plant all year, forming thick growth that provides lasting coverage. The stems cling to surfaces using small aerial roots, allowing the plant to climb structures or trees, while it can also spread across the soil to create dense groundcover. Mature plants sometimes produce rounded clusters of small green flowers in autumn, followed by dark berries that are visited by birds.
