Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’ is a deciduous flowering shrub well known for its enormous rounded white flower heads and dependable garden performance. During early and mid-summer the plant produces large globe-shaped clusters made up of many small sterile florets, often reaching impressive sizes and creating a bold display above the foliage. The blooms gradually change from fresh white to pale green as they age, extending the ornamental period. Beneath the flowers, soft green leaves form a full mound of foliage that fills out borders through the growing season. Because this hydrangea flowers on the current year’s growth, it produces reliable blooms each year even after hard pruning. It grows well in fertile, moisture-retentive soil and adapts easily to both sunny and partially shaded positions in UK gardens.
