Command attention with the dramatic elegance of Paeonia suffruticosa 'Wu Jin Yao Hui', a premier Chinese tree peony appropriately named 'Glittering Black Gold'. This sophisticated woody shrub produces an abundance of large, deeply cupped blooms in a glossy burgundy-maroon, featuring silky, densely packed petals with dark purple blotches at the base. Each flower is highlighted by a striking central boss of golden stamens and emits a delicate, sweet fragrance throughout the late spring and early summer. Reaching a mature height and spread of 1.5 metres, 'Wu Jin Yao Hui' develops a permanent, self-supporting framework of upright woody stems that require no staking. This exceptionally hardy and disease-resistant legacy plant thrives in sheltered, sunny spots with fertile, well-drained soil, offering decades of high-impact, exotic floral interest.
