Photinia serratifolia ‘Crunchy’ (PBR) is a distinctive evergreen shrub grown for its unusually thick, glossy foliage with a firm, textured surface that gives the plant its name. Unlike many photinias selected mainly for red new growth, ‘Crunchy’ is valued for its bold leaf structure and strong year-round presence. The deep green leaves are serrated, leathery, and highly resilient, forming a dense, upright shrub with excellent screening potential. In late spring, clusters of small white flowers may appear, adding seasonal interest without detracting from the foliage, followed by occasional berries. With a naturally well-branched habit and a mature height of around 2–3 metres if left unpruned, this variety is ideal for hedging, structural planting, and contemporary garden designs where durability, privacy, and evergreen form are key.
