Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Dart’s Gold’ is a deciduous ninebark valued for its bright golden foliage and reliable garden performance. In spring, the leaves emerge a vivid yellow-gold, bringing strong contrast to borders and mixed shrub planting. As summer progresses, the colour softens slightly to yellow-green while still retaining a luminous appearance, before developing warmer tones in autumn. In late spring to early summer, rounded clusters of small white flowers appear against the foliage, followed by decorative red seed pods that add further seasonal interest. Forming a vigorous, arching shrub that can reach approximately 1.5–2m in height and spread, ‘Dart’s Gold’ is well suited to larger borders, informal hedging, and wildlife-friendly planting schemes. Fully hardy throughout the UK and adaptable to most well-drained soils including clay, it is a dependable, low-maintenance shrub that offers bold foliage colour across multiple seasons.
