Physocarpus opulifolius First Editions® ‘Spicy Devil’ (PBR) is a compact, deciduous ninebark distinguished by its bold, changing foliage colour and dense, rounded form. In spring, new leaves emerge in striking tones of orange and yellow, before deepening into rich red-purple shades as the season progresses, maintaining strong colour through summer. In late spring to early summer, it produces clusters of small white flowers with a soft pink flush, standing out clearly against the vibrant foliage and attracting pollinators. Decorative red seed pods follow, extending interest into late summer. Growing to approximately 90–120cm in height and spread, ‘Spicy Devil’ is ideal for smaller gardens, borders, low hedging, and container planting where intense foliage colour and manageable size are key. Fully hardy across the UK, adaptable, and easy to grow, it offers high visual impact with minimal maintenance.
