Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Midnight’ is a dark-leaved ninebark shrub that builds a dense, bushy framework and brings strong contrast to borders from spring to autumn. Its foliage is a saturated deep purple, and in summer it carries clusters of pink-tinted white flowers followed by decorative purple fruit, adding interest beyond leaf colour alone. With an eventual height around 1.8m, it works well as a specimen shrub, informal screen, or colour anchor behind perennials, while the naturally tough ninebark constitution keeps it dependable across a wide range of UK garden conditions.
