Black-Eyed Susan, Coneflower
Rudbeckia fulgida ‘Goldsturm’ – Black-Eyed Susan
When the garden begins to lose its summer colour, Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’ brings a fresh burst of golden yellow. Broad petals surround a raised, dark brown centre, creating bold, daisy-shaped flowers above a leafy green clump.
Plant it in groups to create generous patches of late-season colour, or weave it between ornamental grasses for a softer, meadow-like effect. Purple asters make a lively partner, while the muted pink flowers of sedums offer a gentler combination. Its upright growth also makes it easy to work into the middle of a mixed border.
‘Goldsturm’ is a perennial that returns each spring after dying back for winter. As flowering finishes, you can leave some of the dark seedheads standing to add shape and detail to the border through the colder months.
