Skimmia japonica ‘Rubella’
Skimmia japonica ‘Rubella’ is one of the most popular Skimmias for winter colour. This handsome evergreen shrub forms a dense mound of glossy dark green foliage topped by striking clusters of deep red flower buds from autumn and through winter. The buds become particularly showy in late winter before opening into fragrant white flowers in early spring. This gives ‘Rubella’ an exceptionally long season of interest. It is a male variety, so it does not produce berries itself, but it makes an excellent companion for female Skimmias requiring pollination.
