Actinidia arguta ‘Issai’ is a compact, self-fertile hardy kiwi grown for its smooth-skinned, grape-sized fruits and vigorous climbing habit. Unlike many kiwi varieties, ‘Issai’ does not require a separate pollination partner, making it ideal for smaller gardens. In late spring to early summer, it produces small, lightly fragrant white flowers, followed by green fruits that ripen in early autumn. The sweet fruits can be eaten whole without peeling and have a rich, tropical flavour. With its twining stems and fresh green foliage, it is well suited to training over pergolas, fences, and trellis supports. Hardy and productive when grown in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered position, ‘Issai’ combines ornamental value with reliable edible crops.
