Actinidia deliciosa ‘Atlas’ is a vigorous male kiwi vine grown specifically as a pollinator for female varieties of Actinidia deliciosa, such as ‘Hayward’. In late spring to early summer it produces clusters of creamy white flowers rich in pollen, essential for fruit production on nearby female plants. Although it does not produce edible fruit itself, ‘Atlas’ plays a crucial role in ensuring reliable cropping. With strong twining stems and large, lush green leaves, it is ideal for covering pergolas, trellis systems, and sunny walls. Hardy and fast growing in fertile, well-drained soil, it performs best in a warm, sheltered position and is typically planted at a ratio of one male to several female plants for effective pollination.
