Clematis ‘Dr Ruppel’ is a deciduous climbing clematis grown for its large, eye-catching flowers and strong early-summer impact. From late spring into early summer, it produces impressive blooms with broad petals in soft rosy pink, each marked by a deeper central stripe that adds depth and contrast. A lighter second flush of flowers often follows later in the season. The flowers open flat, showing prominent pale stamens, and stand out clearly against the mid-green foliage. Moderate in growth and easy to train, this variety is well suited to trellis, arches, pergolas, or growing through shrubs, where its bold colouring brings a decorative focal point to vertical planting.

How to care for Clematis 'Dr Ruppel'

Light:
Full sun to partial shade; flowers open best with plenty of sunlight on the blooms while the roots stay cool.

Soil:
Fertile, well-drained soil that retains some moisture. Adding organic matter at planting encourages healthy growth.

Water:
Keep soil evenly moist while the plant is establishing. Once mature, it tolerates normal garden conditions but benefits from watering during dry spells.

Pruning:
Pruning group 2 ? blooms on both old and new growth. Lightly trim in late winter or early spring to remove weak or dead stems. After the first flowering, a light tidy encourages a second flush.

Hardiness:
Hardy in temperate climates; withstands typical winter frosts once established.

Feeding:
Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring and optionally after the first flowers to support strong new growth and repeat blooms.
