Clematis ‘Multi Blue’ is a decorative deciduous climber valued for its richly layered flowers and compact, manageable growth. In late spring, it begins producing distinctive blooms made up of multiple rows of narrow, pointed petals in deep blue to violet shades, creating a textured, almost sculptural appearance. As the season progresses, the flowers often open more fully, revealing lighter inner tones and adding variation to the display, with a further flush commonly appearing later in summer. Because of its restrained size and eye-catching detail, this variety is particularly well suited to containers, obelisks, and smaller supports where the complex flowers can be appreciated at close range, offering a dramatic yet controlled presence in the garden.

How to care for Clematis 'Multi Blue'

Light:
Prefers full sun to partial shade. A bright position encourages strong flowering, while light shade helps prevent fading.

Soil:
Grows best in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil that retains some moisture. Keep roots cool with mulch or groundcover.

Water:
Water regularly during the first year and in dry weather. Consistent moisture supports healthy growth and flowering.

Pruning:
Pruning group 2. Lightly prune after the main flowering to remove weak or dead stems. In late winter or early spring, tidy and cut back to strong buds.

Hardiness:
Hardy in most temperate climates and suitable for UK gardens. Shelter from cold, drying winds if possible.

Feeding:
Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring and again after flowering to encourage repeat blooms.
