Cornus controversa
Cornus controversa, often known as the wedding cake tree, is a distinctive deciduous tree admired for its dramatic, tiered branching and refined seasonal interest. In late spring to early summer, flattened clusters of small creamy-white flowers are held horizontally along the branches, followed by blue-black berries later in the season. Large, ovate green leaves create a lush canopy through summer before turning attractive shades of red, purple, and yellow in autumn. Fully hardy in UK conditions, it prefers a sheltered position with moist, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade, where its architectural form can be appreciated as a specimen tree in larger gardens and landscape settings.
