Edgeworthia chrysantha ‘Red Dragon’ is a striking deciduous shrub grown for its richly coloured winter flowers and elegant branching habit. In late winter to early spring, rounded clusters of tubular blooms open on bare stems, revealing warm orange-red flowers that release a noticeable sweet fragrance when little else is in bloom. Soft blue-green leaves emerge after flowering and form a lush canopy through summer before falling in autumn to reveal the plant’s architectural framework. Best grown in a sheltered position with humus-rich, free-draining soil, it performs well in sun or light shade and makes an excellent specimen shrub for adding colour and scent to the winter garden.
