Euonymus fortunei ‘Blondy’ (PBR) is a compact evergreen shrub grown mainly for its bright two-tone foliage and tidy shape. The small leaves have bold golden centres framed by dark green edges, giving the plant a vivid appearance that remains consistent throughout the year. Because it grows slowly and forms a tight mound, it is well suited to the front of borders, edging paths, or growing in containers where a compact evergreen is useful. Very hardy and adaptable, it tolerates most garden soils that drain well and grows successfully in both sunny and lightly shaded areas, providing reliable colour and structure with minimal upkeep.

How to care for Euonymus fortunei BLONDY©

Light:
Prefers full sun to partial shade. ?Blondy? displays its best colour when grown in bright sunlight, where the creamy yellow margins of the leaves are most pronounced. It can tolerate some shade but will lose some of its vibrant variegation in lower light.

Soil:
Thrives in well-drained, fertile soil but is adaptable to a variety of soil types, including clay and slightly poorer soils once established. Ensure the soil is not waterlogged, as this can lead to root rot.

Water:
Water regularly during the establishment phase, ensuring the soil remains moist but not waterlogged. Once established, ?Blondy? is fairly drought-tolerant, though it will benefit from occasional deep watering during dry spells.

Pruning:
Prune in spring or early summer to maintain a neat, compact habit. Euonymus fortunei ?Blondy? responds well to trimming and shaping, making it an excellent choice for hedging, topiary, or as a feature plant in a container.

Hardiness:
Fully hardy in the UK and suitable for a wide range of garden conditions, including urban and coastal environments. It is resilient to frost and cold temperatures, making it a dependable choice for year-round interest.

Feeding:
Low feeding requirements. A light spring feed or a layer of mulch will support healthy growth.
