Fargesia rufa is a compact, clump-forming bamboo grown for its dense foliage and gentle, arching shape. Slim green canes emerge closely together, creating a full plant with soft, narrow leaves that remain attractive throughout the year. Because it grows in a tight clump rather than spreading by long underground runners, it is well suited to gardens where a non-invasive bamboo is required. Its manageable size makes it useful for screening, borders, or growing as a feature plant. Hardy and reliable in UK conditions, it prefers fertile soil that stays slightly moist but drains well and grows successfully in both sunny and lightly shaded positions.
