Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Diable d’Or®’ (PBR) is a compact, deciduous ninebark selected for its intense dark foliage and strong structural presence in the garden. New growth opens in warm coppery-red tones during spring before deepening to a saturated purple-burgundy that remains consistent through summer. In late spring to early summer, clusters of white flowers are carried above the foliage, providing light contrast and seasonal detail, followed by small ornamental seed pods later in the season. With a naturally dense, upright-rounded habit reaching approximately 1.2–1.5 metres in height and spread, this variety suits mixed borders, feature planting, and informal screening where bold foliage colour and manageable size are important. Fully hardy throughout the UK and tolerant of most well-drained soils including clay and chalk, ‘Diable d’Or®’ delivers dependable performance with minimal maintenance.
