Picea abies 'Tompa' is a dwarf evergreen conifer that forms a compact, low mound with dense, evenly spaced branching. Unlike upright dwarf spruces, this variety does not develop a central leader and remains rounded in outline as it matures. Growth is slow and controlled, with short, dark green needles giving the plant a solid, textured appearance throughout the year. Its naturally tidy form requires no pruning and remains stable over time. 'Tompa' is well suited to rock gardens, containers, and small planting spaces where a low-growing conifer is needed for long-term structure and minimal maintenance.
