Azalea viscosa 'Jolie Madame' is a deciduous azalea prized for its fragrant summer flowers and graceful, open growth. Blooming later than many azaleas, it produces clusters of soft pink flowers touched with deeper rose shades, releasing a noticeable sweet scent that carries on warm days. The blossoms appear after the foliage has fully developed, giving a relaxed, natural look rather than a spring-only display. Green leaves form a light canopy through summer before taking on seasonal colour in autumn. Hardy and reliable, 'Jolie Madame' is well suited to woodland-style planting or borders where fragrance, late colour, and seasonal change are valued.

How to care for Azalea viscosa

Light:
Light shade to full sun; flowering is strongest with good light provided the soil remains moist.

Soil:
Requires acidic, humus-rich, free-draining soil that does not dry out completely. Avoid lime and chalky ground.

Water:
Keep soil consistently moist, especially in dry weather. This species tolerates wetter conditions better than many azaleas.

Pruning:
Minimal pruning required. If shaping is needed, prune immediately after flowering.

Hardiness:
Fully hardy in UK conditions.

Feeding:
Mulch in spring with leaf mould or composted bark; apply an ericaceous fertiliser if growth is weak.
