Syringa vulgaris ‘Beauty of Moscow’ is one of the most admired lilacs, grown for its elegant colour transition and richly scented, double flowers. In late spring, rounded pink buds open gradually to fully double blooms in soft white, often retaining a delicate blush that adds depth and refinement to the display. The flower heads are full and well formed, carried upright above fresh green foliage that provides structure once flowering has passed. With a naturally balanced habit and dependable performance in sunny, free-draining conditions, ‘Beauty of Moscow’ develops into a substantial, long-term shrub, prized for its fragrance, subtle colouring, and classic lilac character year after year.

How to care for Syringa vulgaris 'Beauty of Moscow'

Light:
Full sun; abundant light is essential for strong flowering and good colour development.

Soil:
Fertile, well-drained soil; tolerates chalk and neutral to slightly alkaline conditions. Avoid waterlogged sites.

Water:
Water well during establishment and in extended dry spells; established plants are reasonably drought tolerant.

Pruning:
Remove spent flower heads immediately after flowering. Any shaping should be carried out straight after bloom, as flowers are produced on older wood.

Hardiness:
Fully hardy in UK conditions.

Feeding:
Feed in spring with a balanced fertiliser; avoid high-nitrogen feeds that favour leaf growth over flowers.
