Viburnum opulus ‘Compactum’ is a deciduous shrub valued for staying naturally contained while still delivering a full seasonal cycle. It develops into a rounded, orderly plant that does not rely on frequent pruning to hold its shape. In late spring, shallow clusters of white flowers appear evenly across the shrub, followed later by red fruits that persist into autumn and attract wildlife. The foliage forms a dense green body through summer before changing colour ahead of leaf fall. Suited to smaller gardens and mixed borders, ‘Compactum’ provides the character of the guelder rose in a scaled-down form that prioritises balance, reliability, and ease of maintenance over size or showiness.
